With a background in web development, Paul Hemetsberger launched dict.cc back in 2002. What started as an online dictionary has grown into a collaborative language resource, where users from around the world can suggest translations and refine existing entries. The site attracts a global audience, especially from the U.S., U.K., and Germany.Paul has been working with us since 2017. Before joining us, he managed his own ad monetization setup using AdScale, Criteo, and Google Ads. After testing our ad stack, he found it outperformed his previous system, without adding extra ad clutter. That improvement, combined with our hands-on support, made it an easy decision.More recently, we helped Paul take his monetization to the next level. With a few strategic updates, we boosted his revenue by 135% in just one month, all while maintaining his priority: a clean, user-friendly experience. Here’s how we did it:
- Introduced an adhesive ad unit on mobile: A high-visibility format that stays in view but doesn’t interfere with the UX.
- Added a sidebar unit on desktop: A subtle, non-intrusive placement that drives more engagement without disrupting the layout.
- Optimized Smart Refresh frequency: Updated refresh rates to maximize viewability and boost revenue intelligently.
What’s next? Paul continues to build and refine dict.cc. He’s focused on expanding the language offering, adding existing tools like the language training and content creation features, and making sure the platform remains intuitive and valuable to its global community.
“What I like about you is that I don't have a lot of work with monetization issues. You handle this for me, so I can focus on providing great content, functionality, and user support.”
